Fresh (Fulbright) Meat

This week I hopped on the bus and headed to Madrid for the official Fulbright orientation. Of course by now I had already gone through the hurdles of adjusting to life in Spain; I had my bank account set up, received my stipend check, and found a place to live. For me, it was more an opportunity to get to know my fellow Fulbrighters. So what did I learn from the orientation? That the Fulbright commission...

Homeless no more

I thought I would never find a place.  I wasn’t asking for much, just somewhere close to work that did not mind my little Snickers.  Getting Snickers here was no problem at all, but trying to find a room to rent was an exhausting ordeal.  Most places just did not accept mascotas (pets). Of course, I could have gotten a one-bedroom apartment, but I didn’t want to spend 500€ a month for rent....

Those stores that...

Una Paloma en Cocentaina

“Si a tu ventana llega Una Paloma, Trátala con cariño, Que es mi persona” ~ La Palmoa (1) There is something in the air here in Spain.  Within a few days of arriving, I began to recover from that brutal cold that had completely wiped me out.  I slept entirely too much, but my body was begging for it and that lovely Spanish breeze was irresistible.  However, the best remedy for my cold was Siesta, and...

Yes, I Am Alive

I will try my best to sum up the past few days.  I apologize for not keeping everyone up to date, but I came down with a vicious case of strep throat a day before I was scheduled to leave.  I was lucky enough to make it to the doctor and get medicine, but the strep throat seems to have turned into a severe case of tonsillitis.   I have chills, fever, muscle aches, and thee usual yet awful sore throat. I...
