A weekend in Moraira en la Costa Blanca

I had no idea that I had family here in Spain.  And so close to me too!   Jamie and his wife Maria live on the Costa Blanca, in an old fishing pueblo nestled between Denia and Benidorm.  But before we start, let’s begin with a lesson in Genealogy. Kinship Terminology 101. Jamie (nickname for Jamshid) is the son of my grandfather’s sister, Ameh Magol.  Ameh Magol was my mother’s aunt, which...

Fiesta del Pilar en Zaragoza

Katha and I decided to spend our first Puente (holiday weekend) in Zaragoza, for the Fiesta del Pilar. Everyone else was planning to come to Valencia, for the Dia de la Comunidad (9 d’Octubre), but the most important events where the fireworks Thursday night and the Mascletà and parade the next day. Snickers…unwrapped

Here at Paloma’s Parent’s house, there is a pet shop right across the street.  They have all the usual pet supplies and they also offer grooming services.  Snickers badly needed to be washed, and I thought it would be a great idea to cut her hair too.  Well for 13 euros (about $18), they not only cut her hair, clipped her nails, brushed her teeth, but they also managed to make her look like a...

Vamos a la Playa

Here in Spain, the month of August is the month for vacation.  I discovered this while walking down the streets of Cocentaina and reading the signs outside of each tienda, some stating that they were closed for the entire month.  What a shame when you compare this to the measly 10-days most people in the US get for vacation.  The statistics are very telling, you can read more about it here. Those stores that...

Yes, I Am Alive

I will try my best to sum up the past few days.  I apologize for not keeping everyone up to date, but I came down with a vicious case of strep throat a day before I was scheduled to leave.  I was lucky enough to make it to the doctor and get medicine, but the strep throat seems to have turned into a severe case of tonsillitis.   I have chills, fever, muscle aches, and thee usual yet awful sore throat. I...
