Norooz, Spanish Style

I miss Iran.  My memories are dated some 15-odd years, but they always manage to creep up on me.   Each has its own hidden trigger, buried deep within the dusty archives of my mind.  I never know when or what will set it off. Burning kerosene lamps.  Mona Lisa’s smile.  The black of asphalt.  Salty, burnt corn.  Water running in dirty streams. Meaningless to you, but these are the momentary sparks. ...

The art of keeping up with yesterday

The blog gods should punish me for this, but it was inevitable.  A quarter of a year has gone by, so where in the world is Yasmin? Did she fell off the face of the earth?  It would be a great excuse, but evidence of my presence on the social media map remains thanks to inferior means. And by inferior, I am referring to facebook status updates.  Ah yes, facebook, also known as the ultimate expression of procrastination. My...

Feria de Todos los Santos, Cocentaina

Ramón y Cajal (note: that’s one person, not two) is...

Homeless no more

I thought I would never find a place.  I wasn’t asking for much, just somewhere close to work that did not mind my little Snickers.  Getting Snickers here was no problem at all, but trying to find a room to rent was an exhausting ordeal.  Most places just did not accept mascotas (pets). Of course, I could have gotten a one-bedroom apartment, but I didn’t want to spend 500€ a month for rent....

Bona nit Cocentaina, Bon dia Valencia

L’hora dels adéus; time to say goodbye.  The last two weeks have been absolutely wonderful, but tomorrow I will be heading to Valencia.  It’ll be me, Snickers, my Lowpro backpack of electronic goodies, one brutally heavy luggage, and my gym bag filled with….food (and yes, that does include a bottle of half-eaten Nutella).  My personal belongings have doubled in the past two weeks, and if...
